Introduction
Tagline: "Learn how to lock in profits from the Betfair correct score markets" - Mike Cruickshank
Welcome to our Momentum System review, where we take a look at one of Mike Cruickshank's latest Betfair systems that has been causing a stir lately.
Mike is renowned in the industry for coming up with betting systems and products that are mathematically sound, such as Each Way Sniper (read our review here).
While he is mostly known for his matched betting services, The Momentum System does not fall into that category. It's actually classed as a Betfair trading system.
Mike markets it as being an ideal system to move on to after matched betting, as it doesn't require you to have bookmaker accounts. It all takes place on Betfair Exchange.
It works in the football correct scoring markets specifically and is completely value-based. That definitely appealed to us - we always want positive EV from our selections!
We will be sharing our personal experiences using the system in our Momentum System review, but first, we'll be digging into how it actually works.
What comes with The Momentum System? |
---|
Interestingly, Mike has put together a free webinar that gives away quite a bit about how the system works. You might wonder why he would do that, but there's a good reason.
The fact is, even if you understand the Momentum System's strategy inside out, you still need those all-important value selections to make it work.
Basically, it's not just about knowing how to trade, but knowing what to trade.
Without Mike's specific filters, which he's developed and refined, you really can't expect to turn a consistent profit in the long-term. It's those magic filters that give you the edge and where the value really is in this system.
How does The Momentum System work?
The main thing to understand is that the whole point of this correct score trading system is to lock in a profit, whatever happens on the pitch.
You will be placing bets before the match kicks off and then betting on different score lines that oppose each other.
Once the match goes in-play, the odds start to move, as you'd expect.
That's your window of opportunity!
As the odds fall, you'll find that you can trade out and secure a profit. You might be thinking, but what if there is a goal? There is a strategy in place for that too.
If you've done any trading on Betfair before, whether it was trading football or other types of sports trading, this aspect of the Momentum System will feel pretty familiar.
However, if you're completely new to Betfair trading, don't let that put you off!
Mike Cruickshank has a knack for breaking things down so that they are easier to understand. He's really good at explaining things in a way that beginners can grasp.
He takes you through the process step by step and there are plenty of video examples.
What is the starting bank for the Momentum System?
There isn't a set starting bank advised for this system, but Mike says that £100 is fine to get started. He does advise paper trading at first so that you can get used to how the system works.
How much time does it take?
Each trade will take a maximum of 45 minutes to complete, but there are many occasions where you will be in and out of the trade much sooner. It depends on how the match unfolds, of course.
Can you trade multiple games at the same time?
You can, but it isn't advised. Making a mistake could cut into your profits, so focusing on one game at a time is the best plan. Mike reckons that more advanced users could potentially trade three matches at once.
However, we would consider ourselves to be pretty advanced, but trying to trade more than one match at a time was tricky. Personally, we would suggest sticking to one, securing your profit and then move on to the next.
Is compounding stakes a good strategy?
Absolutely!
Compounding, where you reinvest your profits into the next trade, is a great way to accelerate your bank growth. It's like a snowball effect, really.
We would strongly recommend sticking with the same stake until you're completely comfortable with how the system works.
Don't run before you can walk, as they say.
Get a solid understanding of the system first, then start thinking about compounding. It's about being sensible and building your bank steadily.
Our experience testing The Momentum System
We wanted to give The Momentum System a test run, just to see how the trading process actually played out in real life. Here we share everything we learned about it.
Finding suitable value trades
Firstly, finding trades was simple.
The software is really user-friendly and those familiar with Mike's other products will see some similarities in the design.
As you can see below, it highlights all the selections that meet the system's criteria. Anything with a rating over 100 is a value selection, which means it's ideal for trading.
We also had to keep an eye on the CS Matched column, making sure there was at least £5,000 matched. This is crucial because there needs to be enough liquidity in the market to trade out when you need to.
You'll find that more money tends to flood into these markets the nearer it gets to kick-off.

Entering a trade
Once we had found a suitable selection, we headed over to Betfair Exchange to check that the odds were the same as what the software was showing.
Occasionally, we did find that the odds had shifted a bit. This wasn't too much of an issue, as we just queued our bets at the required odds and got matched before kick-off.
Some people might not feel comfortable with queuing bets and that's fair enough. If you're uneasy with it, you can just skip that selection and move on to another one.
On a weekend, there are often plenty to choose from.
Using the Momentum System calculator
The next thing to do was to enter the odds into the Momentum System calculator.
This is where the magic happens.
As you can see in the example below, after inputting the odds, the calculator automatically worked out our stakes for us. All we had to do then was to place the bets and wait for the match to start.

In this example, we entered a £100 max liability. But the thing is, as long as you follow the strategy as it's meant to be followed and make the recommended in-play moves, you're not actually risking the full £100.
This is just a snapshot of the calculator, but below that section, it gives you all the details of the bets you need to place during the match. It also shows you what you need to do to "green up" the trade, or lock in a profit regardless of the outcome.
We found that it was clearly laid out, which was a big plus.
Our first Momentum System trades
We're pleased to tell you that we were able to make a profit from our test run. It wasn't a huge sample size, but it was enough to give us a good feel for the system.
We traded four selections altogether and here's how they went:
For our test trades, we decided to use a £500 stake for each one.
As we mentioned earlier, it's important to remember that this wasn't the actual amount at risk as long as we followed the system's in-play moves.
Honestly, we never felt like we were in any danger of losing our stake and we felt comfortable that we would be able to trade out.
What we found was that the system allowed us to make consistent, steady profits.
Although we only traded a few selections as part of our test run, we felt that if we continued to pick out value selections, we'd be able to grow our bank substantially by compounding our stakes for each trade. The potential was huge!
There was one thing we did notice that's worth pointing out.
Exiting the trade is done in stages and sometimes it can be a little tricky to get matched in-play at the exact odds the calculator tells you to. Things can move quickly and you might find the odds have shifted slightly by the time you try to place your bet.
But the good news is, it's not the end of the world if this happens, as we found that if we improvised a bit we could still come out on top.
For example, during the Juventus v PSV match, we missed our trade odds slightly. But, as you can see, we still managed to secure a profit. So, no harm done!
We feel that this is something that would definitely get easier the more you trade the strategy. You tend to get quicker at reacting to those in-play movements and get a feel for the ideal points to place your bets in order to get matched.
Could The Momentum System be automated?
We had heard that Mike used to provide an automation bot to trade the Momentum System for you. Unfortunately, this was before we even got wind of the system ourselves, so we sadly didn't get the chance to try it out.
However, we did a bit of digging and the general consensus from those who did try it out was that it didn't work very well. The feedback we've had was that it didn't quite hit the mark when it came to "greening up" trades.
There were apparently quite a few things that could go wrong, which isn't ideal when you're dealing with real money.
Personally, we prefer to have more control over our trades.
We can totally see why automating the strategy would be appealing to a lot of people, as the idea of setting it and forgetting it is definitely attractive.
We've heard that some traders have had a bit of success using software like Bet Angel to automate the trading out process. The problem is, it requires a bit of expertise to get right.
It's definitely possible, but it's not a simple solution. For us, we're quite happy sticking with the good old-fashioned way of doing things!
Verdict
