Templegate Tips Review – Exposing the Truth
Quick Summary
Introduction
Welcome to my Templegate Tips review, where I investigate if this free horse racing tipster from The Sun is worth following and whether you can make money from the tips.

Introducing Steve Mullen, who is the successor to Steve Jones, the original Templegate tipster.
His first tip for Sun Racing was posted on 29th March 2021, so I assume that is when he took over from the other Steve.
This tipster is quite prolific, offering a tip for each race across several meetings.
It does make you think about the research process and how he or his team manage to find value in every single race.
Either they are dedicating a significant amount of time to find selections, or perhaps they’ve developed an automated system.
Without any specific information from them, I was left to speculate.
I couldn’t find any results for Templegate on the Sun Racing website. But you know what? That’s actually quite common with these newspaper tipsters. They seem to rely on word of mouth to get their name out there. Keeping it a bit mysterious, maybe?
Putting It to the Test
For my Templegate Tips review, I decided to record my own results and see how well the tipster performed across a period of three months.
I reached 2,469 bets in total, with an average of 27 bets per day.
My results include profit and loss at the odds available on the day of the races, with all bets at 1 point level stakes on the race winner market.
It was a very interesting trial and you will definitely want to see what happened!
Key Details
The tips are posted daily on the Sun Racing website, usually late in the evening the day before the races take place.
Odds taken from a bookmaker are displayed next to each tip, which may be the best odds available at the time they are posted, but it is not clear.
- Time of tips: Evening
- Bet volume: Average 800 tips per month
- Advised starting bank: No advice
Templegate Tips Review Results

My Templegate Tips review results were, in a word, shocking.
I chose to follow the tipster for three months and tracked the available odds on the day of the races. The reason I didn’t track the odds from the evening when they were posted was because it was usually past 11.00pm, or in other words, past my bedtime!
The first month was a disaster, with £258.02 lost using £10 per point stakes.
From there, it only got worse.
By the end, I had lost a total of £3,407.62, or 340.8 points.
To put that into perspective, if you had started with a standard £1,000 starting bank, you would have lost it, then lost it again… and then lost it a third time. It was brutal!
Final Verdict
Templegate Tips may be free and appear popular, but my review painted a far less favourable picture. It was a truly disastrous outcome from my three months of results.
The staggering £3,407.62 loss speaks for itself.
For anyone considering following these tips, I strongly advise exercising extreme caution, or better yet, avoiding them altogether.
This experience serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in blindly following horse racing tipsters without verifiable results, even if you are saving on subscription fees!

Hi anyone,
Regarding any newspaper tipster, the simple fact is they ALL lose many if you’re blindly following ALL their tips. This can easily be verified simply by looking at the Press Challenge in the Racing Post. ALL the daily newspaper tipsters tip about the same percentage of winners, around 25% to 27%, and they ALL lose at ROI, prices being calculated at industry SP, varying from 10% losses down to 20%. To be fair I think that NOBODY can possibly make a profit from tipping in every race, but that’s their job and a selection seems to be required for every race, the maths will simply beat you in the end, simply due to the bookmakers built in profit margin. Even the Naps table is depressing reading, with only about 10% of the 60 or so contributors making a profit from their best bets of the day by the end of the season, in my opinion too FEW bets. However I think it is possible to make a profit from any individual tipster but only by being selective, actually very selective. I’m currently working on that aspect and I’m seeing some interesting data, so far not enough to come to definite conclusions but certainly seeing some trends are emerging. Thanks for all your research, there are some very interesting posts.
Cheers,
Double Gee.
