Tipster Leaderboard FAQs

How does the Tipster Leaderboard work?

The Rated Tipsters Leaderboard brings together results from established tipster platforms, making it easier to compare services in one place.

You can compare recent and long-term performance using figures such as profit, ROI, number of bets and win rate. Rather than judging a tipster on one good month, it gives you a much broader picture of how they have performed over time.

How can I find the best betting tipsters?

There isn’t one betting tipster that will be right for everyone, which is why it’s worth looking beyond profit alone when comparing services.

Our leaderboard lets you compare betting tipsters using factors such as recent and long-term profit, ROI, number of bets and win rate. You can then take a closer look at the services that interest you, including their staking requirements, bet frequency and the types of bets they provide.

If you’re not sure what else to look for, our guide to choosing a betting tipster covers the most important things to consider before joining a service.

How often is the leaderboard updated?

The Tipster Leaderboard is updated once a month, using the latest results available from each platform.

This means you can compare performance across the same reporting periods, while longer-term figures provide a better idea of how each service has performed over time.

What does profit in points mean?

Using points makes it easier to compare tipsters regardless of the amount you personally choose to bet.

For example, if a tipster makes a 20-point profit and you bet £10 per point, that would represent a £200 profit. At £5 per point, the same performance would be worth £100.

Your actual returns will depend on your stake size and the odds you are able to obtain.

What does ROI mean?

ROI stands for Return on Investment and shows the profit generated in relation to the amount staked.

A higher ROI can indicate that a tipster has generated more profit from the money put at risk, but it shouldn’t be looked at in isolation. The number of bets, length of the results history, average odds and overall profit can all provide useful context.

How are lay betting services compared?

With lay betting, the amount at risk is the liability rather than the backer’s stake. Where applicable, ROI for lay betting services is therefore calculated using liability, giving a more meaningful indication of the return generated from the money actually at risk.

Why do some tipsters have more results than others?

Some services have been running for many years, while others are relatively new. The number of bets can also vary considerably depending on how frequently a tipster sends selections.

This is worth bearing in mind when comparing results. A strong ROI from a few dozen bets doesn’t carry the same track record as similar performance across several thousand selections.

Does past performance guarantee future profits?

No. Even tipsters with excellent long-term records will have losing bets, poor months and periods of drawdown.

Historical results can help you make a more informed comparison, but they can’t tell you what will happen next. Betting always involves risk, so only bet with money you can afford to lose.
